Shiitake

Lentinula edodes

Organic Shiitake, the cornerstone mushroom, fully accounted for.

Where organic Shiitake comes from

Shiitake (Lentinula edodes) is a wood-decay mushroom native to the forests of East Asia, where it has been cultivated for centuries on fallen hardwood logs such as oak, chestnut, and beech. Today it is grown both on natural logs and on supplemented sawdust substrate under controlled humidity, with the fruiting bodies harvested and dried. For THREEE, organic Shiitake is sourced for the blend, then ground and standardized alongside the other nine mushrooms.

We list it because it belongs there, Shiitake, named and measured in every cup.

What the research explores

Daily Shiitake consumption and immune markers in healthy young adults

In a four-week randomized dietary intervention, 52 healthy adults consumed 5 or 10 grams of dried Lentinula edodes daily; researchers observed increased ex vivo proliferation and activation of gamma-delta and NK-T cells, higher secretory IgA in saliva, and lower serum C-reactive protein. The study describes shiitake consumption only and makes no claims about any commercial product.

Soluble beta-glucan from Shiitake mycelium in healthy elderly subjects

This crossover, placebo-controlled study gave a soluble beta-glucan derived from Lentinus edodes mycelium to healthy elderly participants and reported differences in B-cell counts between groups, with the supplement assessed as well tolerated. Findings pertain to the isolated beta-glucan tested, not to whole shiitake or any product.

Review of immunomodulatory properties of Lentinula edodes polysaccharides

This review summarizes laboratory and animal research on polysaccharides from Lentinula edodes, describing their structural features, receptor interactions, and reported immunomodulatory effects that vary with extraction method and composition. As a review, it compiles prior findings rather than reporting a new human trial.

What organic Shiitake brings to the cup

Organic Shiitake is the most studied of the culinary-medicinal mushrooms, valued for its beta-glucan polysaccharides and its naturally savory, umami depth. In THREEE it is one of ten fully disclosed mushrooms, contributing to the structure of the blend rather than acting alone. It is included for its place in the tradition of whole-food mushrooms and its role in a balanced, transparent formulation.

The THREEE truth

Organic Shiitake is one of ten mushrooms in the disclosed 520mg organic mushroom blend in every cup of THREEE.

A closer look at one landmark study.

In a randomized dietary intervention, 52 healthy adults aged 21 to 41 consumed either 5 or 10 grams of dried Lentinula edodes daily for four weeks. The researchers measured immune parameters before and after the period and observed increased ex vivo proliferation and activation of gamma-delta and NK-T cells, along with elevated secretory IgA in saliva. They also recorded lower serum C-reactive protein and shifts in several cytokines, which the authors interpreted as occurring under less inflammatory conditions than at baseline. The study characterizes the effects of dietary shiitake itself and makes no claims about any commercial product.

One of ten. All in one cup.

Organic Shiitake has been part of kitchens and study for a very long time. In THREEE it simply takes its named place among ten mushrooms, measured and listed, in every cup. Nothing to rush, it is there each morning when you are.
